We're now Homeowners!

We finally closed on our house today! We have been looking for a house for a while and now we finally have one. Today I took the afternoon off and went home and picked Krista up from the apartment and we went out to lunch before the walk-through (New York Pizza Pasta in Indian Trail). We then met Gary, our Realtor, at the house and did a quick walk-through to make sure everything was as it should be. When we were done with that we went to the attorney's office in Downtown Monroe (aka Funroe - sort of like Slocala). There we met the sellers, the sellers Realtor, and the attorney. Thirty minutes of signing papers later, we were handed the keys and walked out. We then went to the house and crashed on the floor for a while. I was determined to leave something of ours there so I brought in the baby swing that was still in the box in the back of the car and put it together. We also plugged in the refrigerator so that I can bring some food down and start having lunches in the house. This weekend, we have some help coming up from Florida to help get Emma's room, the master bedroom, and the kitchen wainscoting painted. All together, it was a very smooth purchase. We never had any real hiccups. The sellers were a young couple like us and they were really nice (probably because we were buying their house in a slow home market). They told us all about the neighborhood and the fruit trees and the house. We have already found some of the fruit trees, but here is a complete list: Apples, Pears, Peaches, Figs, and some mystery fruit tree that looks like an Apple or Pear tree. All of the fruit is good, but is mostly good only after cooking. We will be looking into maintaining the trees to prevent pests (some of the fruit seems to have some kind of fungus attacking it) and to fertilize them to maybe help them grow a little better. The previous owners didn't do much with them. The trees are well established, but might could need a little help (yes, Casey, might could). Watch for pictures and updates in the next several days.
