Miscellaneous news from the last few days
First, here are pictures from our apartment. It's a pretty nice apartment and, obviously, high speed internet was ready and waiting for us. We also now have a phone number but we don't know what it is yet. I just noticed last night that the phone now has a dial tone. Our area code is (704) soooo only about 100 million attempts should figure it out. Or I'll ask the HR lady at work on Monday. Which brings us to item number 2. I got a phone call from work yesterday and, apparently, when I first login to my computer at work I will have around 25 meeting invitations to respond to. These are all going to be people that I will be working with and will be learning a lot from them. My first few weeks will be filled with meetings as I make my way around the company. Item 3: we had a doctor's appointment yesterday at the Charlotte OB-GYN at the Arboretum. Our doctor was very nice and everything went well. We have scheduled an ultrasound for two weeks from now to check on the health of the baby and so the new doctor can check things out for himself. Based on our history, he said everything looks normal and we are in good shape. He does agree, though, that an early delivery is likely (hopefully only by a few weeks or less). Item 4: we have placed an offer on a house! We are really excited and nervous at the same time. The expenses along the way will be tough, but we should have enough money coming in over the next few weeks to take care of things. The house is located at 1400 Woodlark PL in Monroe. I neglected to bring my camera with me so I don't have any pictures for you. Sorry. It is a little over 1500 square feet on 0.68 acres. The back yard is fully fenced and both yards are filled with large shade trees. The house is in a quiet neighborhood on a cul-de-sac so there is basically no traffic in front of the house. The only downside is that the home is just within Monroe city limits by less than a mile so the taxes are higher (the highest in Union county). On the other hand, though, there are real services like paid fire and police forces in case of emergency. Most other towns in Union county rely on volunteer fire departments and a severely overstretched Sheriff's department. And, finally, we miss you guys. We are adjusting ok, but right now we only know about 2 people up here. Hopefully that will start to change tomorrow when we start meeting new people at church and begin building new relationships. All in all, it's been a busy week. Next week will be busier as I report to work at 8:30 am on Monday.
