The sun sets on a long, hard day

Today started with a lot of sadness. Our sick cat, Sophie, died today. She had been having trouble breathing for a while, but it was manageable. This morning we got up early for interviews/work stuff and I grabbed Sophie to feed her. When I set her on the tub like I usually do, she was clearly in distress. Over the next several minutes she got worse and was clearly entering respiratory arrest (couldn't breathe). She died a few minutes later on our bathroom floor. Thankfully, we were up extra early this morning. If we were on our usual schedule we probably would have slept through it. This way we were able to comfort her and say good-bye.

Afterwards, we had to rush to get ready and go to work (Krista was working a side-job today) and an interview (I interviewed at Siemens today). We packaged Sophie up for cremation and put her in the back of the truck. As sad as it was, it was quite funny thinking about showing up at an interview with a dead cat in the back of the truck. I also forgot to put on a belt in the rush. I managed to hide my missing belt by not removing my coat so I was fine. The interview went well enough despite much confusion caused by the Siemens HR department. Several of us were mis-scheduled and I had to spend extra time there waiting in the lobby. I then had a full day of errands and stops before I finally made it to work. There is more that went on today, but I won't bore you with all the details. Suffice it to say, we are glad to be home finally. I get to rest tonight before I get back to aggressive writing for the First Submission deadline on Monday. I'll be posting pictures from our visit to the butterfly gardens at UF tonight as well. The visit was a part of the work that Krista did today. Stay tuned...
