It's Dr. Wilson now...

Or Krista, Ph.D. if you prefer. (and Dr. Mommy to our cats)

Krista gave her defense today on the three projects in her dissertation. And passed. She did very well. Her presentation lasted about 50 minutes and then she was asked questions and had to discuss some things with her committee for a while. After over an hour with her committee, she was sent out to await the decision. After about 10 minutes of deliberation, the verdict came back positive. Krista is now a Ph.D. She some corrections to make to her dissertation and a bunch of paperwork and submissions to make, but she is basically done. She expects to have her corrections finished in about a week. That means, in about 2 weeks, everything should be finished except for any editing requested by the editorial office. She was very excited and now she doesn't really know how to feel. It will probably take a while for it to sink in. She's sleeping now to gain some energy for tonight's party.

And because I know you're wondering, mine is taking a little longer but Dr. Fuchs still thinks I am in good shape to graduate this semester. I will hopefully finish collecting my XRD data this week and then I'll spend next week sorting it out to learn what it all means. Once that is done, I think I will be able to get a lot of writing done and may be able to move on. My TEM work is in danger of being cut at this point. That would make my life much easier. To do that, though, I will need excellent XRD results. I plan to have that taken care of very soon.
