Psycho Kitty

I know we've called Sophie all kinds of names over the years. You may recall Sophie McGrumpypants (June 2007 in the archives, 2/3 way down). Anyway, she has a new nickname: Psycho-Kitty. Sophie has endeared herself to the staff at the vet hospital and in the process has revealed her true nature. Every time they take her out of her cage and put her on the table to feed her, she vomits. At first they thought it was a result of her illness, but after a while they began to realize that she was upset at the thought of being messed with by the vet. If they sneak up on her while she's in the cage and feed her within the cage without moving her, she's fine. They have also found that it's not just feeding her that causes her to throw up. Just taking blood is enough to do it. So we were called down to see how she would respond around us. No problems. We think she's mostly very grumpy and works herself up such that she can't help but vomit. After visiting with her we decided (at our vet's recommendation) that she should stay a few more days to make sure that the vomiting is under control. Compared to last Friday when we took her for her ultrasound, she looks MUCH better. She's still yellow, but not as much. She was alert and her tongue was back in her mouth. Her breathing is back to normal as well. She had a little difficulty walking, but that could be a result of being in a cage for the past week and not eating for over a month. The floors were also a little slippery for her. Hopefully she will continue to improve. She still isn't eating on her own, which still concerns us. But she could possibly come home and we could continue tube-feeding her during her recovery. The pictures here were taken with my cell-phone today. The blue vet-wrap is where the tube goes into her neck
