So this is what happened

I was working late the other night on the FIB (Focused Ion Beam for milling TEM samples). I went in around 10 for an all-nighter. While I was getting settled in the room and venting the chamber I decided to plug in my computer and speakers so I could watch "The Host" and "Transformers". The plugging in went as you would expect. The only thing was that the plug that I needed was behind the FIB unit in the back wall. Apparently the group that set it up thought it made more sense to run the cables to the side wall rather than the back wall where no one ever goes (for good reason, it turned out). As I was making my way around computers and consoles and cables and such I came to a point where I needed to take a long step (this is where they chose to run the cables). So I used my 26 years of experience walking and took a big step. I moved faster than I would have preferred but I didn't really have a choice because I'd be off-balance otherwise. Right as my foot was about to touch the ground, BANG!!!! I smacked my forehead on the cabinet that was hanging on the wall to the right. To make matters worse, I knew the cabinet was there so I ducked as I stepped forward. This action added more speed to inevitable impact. And not only that, I had hit the bottom left corner of the cabinet (the intersection of three surfaces). Needless to say, I had a nice cut in my forehead (just above the hair line). It was about 3/4 inch long with a nice upside-down "Y" shape to it. I didn't realize I was bleeding for several seconds. The pain helped with that. Then I saw my hand and realized I had a problem. I went to the bathroom and cleaned it up and saw it was fine. Like most head wounds, it bled a lot for a small cut. I'm fine now. Just a little memory loss and occasional blackouts that should go away in 5-10 years;-)
