116

So Florida just entered a short heat wave. By short, I mean only a week or two. The actual temperatures have only been in the mid to high 90's. The heat index, however, is another story. For those that don't know, the Heat Index is to Florida what wind chill is to Northerners. It is a reflection of what it "feels" like outside. The Heat Index is adjusted for things like humidity and sun light intensity. A normal Florida summer consists of temperatures in the mid 90's with Heat Indices around 100. Today it was 116. I think that's the highest I've ever heard the heat index in this part of Florida. The high temperature today will likely be around 97, but because of high humidity, it feels much, much hotter. I don't normally complain about the heat down here, but this is hot. The state even issued a heat advisory. Heat advisories are not uncommon in other states, but in Florida their rather rare. Hopefully it will "cool off" a little over the next several days.
