Gator Champions...Again

So we won the National Championship in football the other night. It was loads of fun. Florida played a nearly perfect game. The only major mistake came on the opening kickoff. The kicker was supposed to kick the ball to the left and instead kicked it to the right. Our entire team was lined up to go left so we were all out of position when they (Ohio State) ran it back for a touchdown. That play lasted 16 seconds. Then next 59 minutes and 44 seconds belonged to Florida. The other school may as well have gotten back on the bus and left for as well as they played. So I'm claiming a piece of this championship (I know Casey already claimed one). Krista and I cooked the same championship winning shish kabobs that got us the basketball championship last year. That surely means something, right? Besides, I think it was my voice above the 92,000 other voices this seasoned that pushed the decibell level up enough to confuse every team we played at home. When you think about it, no one really had a chance this year.

Well, enough with the bragging. Gainesville was crazy that night. Fireworks and massive crowds in the streets. We avoided downtown and campus for good reason, but I've seen pictures and heard stories. A mass of humanity covered that part of Gainesville Monday night. A coworker of mine was downtown and was out till about 5 am before things started to slow down. More than a 1/3 of the students at UF (pop. 48,000) skipped school on Tuesday. Also, Florida is the first school in history to hold both the Football Championship trophy and the Basketball championship trophy at the same time. There's a big football rally on Saturday at the Swamp that we will probably go to to show our appreciation for the players and coaches. All in all, it was a great experience to have.
